The exploits of the Kellys of St. Johnston continued at the weekend with James Kelly setting another Irish record as he won the U-17 Juvenile Indoor Championships.
In doing so James broke his brother John's shot-putt record. James (pictured) fired the shot out to 16.09 metres, beating the previous mark of 15.90.
James is a student at the Royal and Prior, Raphoe, and he took the gold ahead of Dunboyne’s Jack Nyham and Tagmon AC’s Padraig Hore.
The Kelly brothers are coached by their father, John.
James was awarded by Athletics Ireland earlier this year as best young thrower nationally after a record-breaking season.
In 2015, he set a new Celtic Games record to take gold in the Under-16 shot-putt event in Falkirk, where he threw 17.68 metres, breaking the Celtic Games record set by John (17.56 metres) in 2011.
