The 2016 Magee Donegal Bay Spring Sportive was officially launched on Tuesday at the Magee Shop in Donegal Town.
This year is the 4th edition of the Spring Sportive organised by Donegal Bay Cycling Club, which has attracted over 200 cyclists in each of its first three editions.
World renowned local company Magee of Donegal have very kindly stepped in to back the event this year. Owners of Magee, the Temple family, have been very keen cyclists for many years and Lynn, Charlotte and Paddy were all present at the launch, with Chairman of Magee, Lynn, saying they were delighted to be supporting such a great event that showcased the beauty of South Donegal.
As well as previously taking part in the Donegal Bay Spring Sportive themselves, members of the Temple family have participated in numerous Sportives including the L’Etape event in France where participants ride a full stage of the Tour De France, the Maratona del Dolomites in Italy, as well as many other famous events both in Ireland and overseas.
Donegal Bay Cycling Club are grateful for the very kind backing of the Magee Company and are honoured to be associated with such a prestigious name. With the backing of Magee, the aim is now to grow the Sportive and make it a major sporting event that will attract people to Donegal Town and the surrounding areas, showcasing the beauty and hospitality of South Donegal.
The Spring Sportive takes in the scenic roads of South/South West Donegal and once again, there will be three routes on offer, 40/100/140km with food/refreshment stops on all three routes. There will also be refreshments provided before and afterward at the St. John Bosco Centre, Donegal Town.
The choice of three routes caters for all levels of cyclist, whether a hardened veteran or a brand new cyclist. It is not a race and there is no prizes for first home so the main aim is to enjoy the cycle at your own pace. We once again look forward to welcoming a large crowd of enthusiastic cyclists for this most enjoyable day out.
