Donegal recorded their second win of the North West U-21 Cup with a narrow win over Mayo, on Saturday afternoon in O’Donnell Park.
It took a super injury time point from team captain Ciaran Thompson to clinch the win over an understrength Mayo after the Connacht men had come from 1-8 to 0-5 with a little over a quarter hour remaining.
Donegal, who had Ciaran Gillespie, Eamon McGrath, Caolan McGonagle, Aodhan McGinley and Lorcan Connor for the first time, led 0-5 to 0-4 at half-time.
Stephen McBrearty scored a rather fortuitous goal early in the second half when his 40 metre free went through the hands of Mayo wing back Barry Duffy.
But a super Liam Irwin goal and points from Irwin and Fergal Boland tied up the game before Thompson stepped up for a last gasp winner.
