Everton’s Coleman to miss out on derby appearance against Liverpool
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed Seamus Coleman is out of tonight’s Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed Seamus Coleman is out of tonight’s Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield.

The 25-year-old missed Everton’s 4-0 win FA Cup at Stevenage FC on Saturday with a minor tissue injury sustained at West Brom last Monday and Martinez is unwilling to risk the in-form full-back against their neighbours.

“Seamus is out,” said Martinez yesterday. “While he is not far away, the derby game has come too soon.”

Aiden McGeady, the Republic of Ireland winger, made his first start since joining Everton from Spartak Moscow at Stevenage. The Glasgow native, who qualifies for Ireland through his family connections at Glasslough in Gweedore, is expected to be on the bench against Liverpool.

Everton are currently sixth in the Premier League but are just one point behind Liverpool, who sit in fourth.

Martinez also has doubts over Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin, while midfielders Ross Barkley and Steven Pienaar are still out.

Bryan Oviedo is definitely out after suffering a double leg break in that cup victory over the League One side.
