Former Finn Harps winger Shaun Williams has signed for Championship outfit Millwall from MK Dons for an undisclosed fee.
Williams, who is now 27, played on loan for the Ballybofey club from Sporting Fingal in 2008 under the management of Paul Hegarty.
“His contract was due to run out at the end of the season and although we offered him a new deal, he’s decided to move on and we’ve got to respect that,” said MK Dons manager Karl Robinson.
“I’m just extremely grateful and thankful to Shaun for all he’s done for me and the football club.”
Dublin-born Williams, who has represented the Republic of Ireland at U-23 level, joined MK Dons from Sporting Fingal in February 2011.
He plays more frequently nowadays as a centre-back and has scored 25 goals in total in 137 games for the League One club and could make his debut for his new club against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
“He is a very unique player, someone who has played in a number of positions for us, and every challenge I have thrown his way he has accomplished with grace,” Robinson added.
Another former Finn Harps player, full-back Marty Owens, this week signed for Galway FC. Owens played for Mayo side Charlestown Athletic before signing for Sligo Rovers and playing in their 2011/12 U-19 side.
He made his league debut for the club in a 3-0 win over Dundalk at the Showgrounds in 2012 and featured for Harps in the second half of last season.
