A number of athletes took part in the all Ireland children’s games at the weekend in Finn Valley. Good performances from all on the day with some people setting new personal bests but no luck on the medal front. Good luck to all travelling to the all Ireland juvenile championships.
Gaelforce North - A large squad of Rosses and Gaoth Dobhair competitors lined up at the head of Glenveagh Valley early on Saturday morning last for the start of Gaelforce North Adventure Challenge. Conditions were cold and soon deteriorated but that did not deter the big number taking part from producing superb performances over the Sprint and Full courses. Gary Gillespie, Braade finished third in the Sprint course in a time of 2:56:26. Noreen Mc Gee finished 2nd lady in a time of 3:25:38. Other local finishers in the Sprint course were Peter Mc Bride, Doire na Mainséar 3:16:36, Brian Ó Dónaill, Rann na Feirsde 3:33:36, Elise Gillespie, Braade 3:51:06. Ita Gallagher, Rosses AC Club Chairperson was 3rd in the Ladies V40 category in 3:51:07. Liam Mc Fadden 4:05:59. Deirdre Diver 4:12:45. Pól Ó hIcí 4:16:03. Nicole Logan 4:25:52. Fiona Mc Ginley 4:25:55. Eamonn Diver 4:38:04. Kevin Gillespie 4:40:12. Damien Ó Dónaill, Rann na Feirsde 4:40:25. Maureen Doherty 4:43:35.
Edward Harkin was the lead local runner in the full course in a time of 4:06:00. Sinéad Boyle, Gaoth Dobhair was 2nd lady over the Full Course in a time of 5:19:01 while Maria Ní Mhaolagáin, Crolly was the winner in the U24 category in 5:51:07. Other finishers in the Full Course were Noel Diver 4:24:50, Brendan Mc Bride 4:38:41, Eugene Mc Cafferty 4:40:21, Willie Beag Mac Giolla Bhríde 4:44:01, Dennis Forker, Carrickfinn 5:10:13, Fergal Mc Gee, Dore 5:15:25, Eamonn Freel, Calhame 5:28:06, Noel Boyd, Bunbeg 5:41:37, Niall Griffin 5:41:38, Blathnaid Cipriano, Dore 5:51:47.
Date for the Diaries: 4k in aid of the North West Cancer Support Group will take place on Friday 16th August in Carrickfinn.
