Copany Rovers will welcome back a host of former players as they celebrate their 25th anniversary on Sunday week, July 14.
Current European Middleweight boxing champion Jason Quigley played for the Donegal League club and has accepted an invitation to attend Killowen Park for the anniversary.
As well as that, Copany can boast that three All-Ireland winners have lined out in the club’s colours.
From the current vintage - Jim McGuinness’s panel that defeated Mayo 2-11 to 0-13 last September at Croke Park - David Walsh played with the club.
The Naomh Bríd clubman had a promising soccer career ahead of him before he suffered a cruciate knee injury.
Walsh was on the books of Luton Town FC in Bedford before returning home and making his Ulster championship debut for Donegal under Brian McIver against Derry in 2008.
Copany also possessed two of the 1992 All-Ireland winning vintage with both Matt Gallagher and Joyce McMullin - the respective full-back and left-half forward against Dublin - having played for the club.
Declan McIntyre falls into the category of ‘former player.’
That’s because it’s only been discovered this week the 1991 FAI Cup winner with Galway United played with Copany once - against Donegal Town in October 1979.
One man well qualified to talk about those who have represented the club since their inception in 1988 is Thomas Given, who has played in each of the last 25 years and captained the side last season.
Francie Johnson and Denis McMullin are also long-serving club players.
“We play against Finn Harps at 4pm on Sunday, July 14th, but will open the gates from 2pm and have a family day beforehand,” he said yesterday.
“There will be penalty shoot-outs, target practice and bouncy castles there on the day.
“There will also be refreshments and a tuck shop so hopefully we will get a big crowd and let’s also hope the weather stays good and it’s an enjoyable day for all”
