There will be a ‘Donegal Derby’ in the Capital One League semi-final first leg tonight.

Lifford native Shay Given is expected to keep goal for Aston Villa as they face a Bradford City side with Lettermacaward native Carl McHugh on board.

Given was back in the Villa first team as they got off and running in the FA Cup with a third round win over Ipswich Town at Villa Park on Saturday.

The 36-year-old has endured a long spell on the substitutes’ bench since losing his place to American Brad Guzen in August but played his part in the 2-1 win over Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich.

The Championship side had snatched the lead when Michael Chopra shot towards goal only for Villa’s Eric Lichaj to steer the ball into his own net. But Darren Bent dragged Villa level after 51 seconds of the second half, driving a shot home from Charles N’Zogbia’s pass. Andreas Weimann sealed victory late on, heading in Gabriel Agbonlahor’s cross.

Villa now turn their attentions to the Capital One Cup - a competition in which Given has been playing. Villa enjoyed a fine 4-1 away win at Carrow Road against Norwich City in the last round. Paul Lambert’s team have semi-final first leg against Bradford City at Valley Parade tonight.

McHugh played centre-back for the League Two side in the last round, as Bradford toppled Premier League Arsenal on penalties after a 1-1 draw last month. The former Dungloe Town player was an unused substitute on Saturday as his team slipped out of the play-off places on goal difference with a disappointing 2-0 loss against Barnet at Underhill.
