Donegal Youth League Southern Section winners Erne Wanderers advanced to the quarter final of this season’s Colin Breslin Cup on Saturday afternoon after an extra time away victory over Cappry Rovers.

In perfect playing conditions, it was the home team who dominated the early exchanges with Alan Gallagher and Christopher McGlynn with the best chances of opening the scoring. Erne did come into the game in the closing stages of the first half and they were unlucky not to score just before the interval. Jamie McDonald broke the offside trap and raced clear, but his powerful strike for just inside the 18 yard box hammered off the crossbar and post and was cleared eventually by Darren McBride.

The second half was again very even in terms of goal chances and with the 90 minutes finishing 0-0, extra time was played and with the game looking like it was going to be decided on penalties, up popped substitute Jamie Brennan to fire home a late winner for the Ballyshannon men.
