Letterkenny Rovers 3

Drumkeen United 0

Letterkenny Rovers got the defence of their DPD Ulster Senior League Division 1 title off to the perfect start on Saturday with a 3 nil victory over Drumkeen United at the Community Centre in Letterkenny.

Rovers took the lead through Ryan Carlin from close range after good work from Daniel McCauley down right wing in the 10th minute and they went in a half time 2 goals to good after a penalty conversion from Kieran McPherson.

Into the second half and both sides had numerous opportunities to score but were finding it hard to break  down well marshalled defences and also impressive net minding from keepers Paul McCauley (Drumkeen) and Jordan McBride (Rovers).

But with 15 minutes remaining Rovers got a third goal to kill any hope of a Drumkeen revival thanks to a Kieran McPherson strike from 16 yards out - his second of the day.

Final score: Letterkenny Rovers 3-0 Drumkeen United.

Best for Rovers were Daniel McCauley, Kieran McPherson and Jordan McBride, Drumkeen were best served by Paul McCauley, Benny Bonner and Chris Kyle.
