Last weekend sixteen teams from Cliffoney to Ballybofey took part in the inaugural Cashelard 5-a-side at the Cashelard multi-purpose pitch, outside Ballyshannon.

Congratulations to Rocky VI from Ballintra, captained by Rocky Gallagher, who emerged victorious in the Shield, winning 3-2 in a hard fought battle with Cavangarden Rovers captained by Declan Anderson.

The winners of the cup were Kicking The Balls, captained by Liam ‘Sloppy’ Reynolds, who received the top prize of 280 euro along with this year’s title. The Ballyshannon men edged a gripping final 6-4 against Erne Rovers from Belleek.

112 players took part in the competition which was held in association with the Breesy Community Centre and Travellers Rest Bar, Cashelard. Thanks to Brendan Whoriskey of Travellers Rest who donated water throughout the weekend and put on a magnificent meal for the players after the tournament.

A special word of thanks to Trevor Anderson, who organised, played and acted as referee over the weekend.
