Raphoe’s Chloe Magee is now a confirmed starter at the London Olympics after her participation was confirmed by the Badminton World Federation at the weekend.
The 23-year-old who is the Irish Badminton Singles champion, was more or less guaranteed here place after her performance in the recent Irish Open in December, but still had to wait for final confirmation.
Ranked at 44th in the world, Chloe will not compete in her second Olympics in-a-row after doing so well in Beijing four years ago, winning her opening contest, and she will be hoping to go one better this time around.
There is also a chance that her brother Sam could also be London bound as he, along with Chloe, are third reserves in the Olympic list in the mixed doubles. At present they are ranked 40th in the world.
The Raphoe girl is delighted to have had her participation confirmed. “I’m just delighted. Beijing was a fantastice experience,” said Chloe.
“London will be great because it’s so close to home and I just can’t wait.”
