A SINGLE goal was enough for Fanad United to win the John ‘Gorey’ Curran Cup final at Diamond Park in Ballyare on Saturday.
In a scrappy encounter an optimistic long range effort from David Edwards from out beside the touchline deceived Rovers goalkeeper Michael Gibson on the stroke of half-time. Until that point, there had been little between the sides and little in the form of goalmouth action.
Fanad United’s Conor Shiels went close at the start of the game but his shot on goal narrowly cleared the crossbar. Then, at the other end, Odhran McMacken’s snapshot flew side of the post.
Fanad held on well in the second half as neither goalkeeper was seriously tested. Betty Curran, the wife of the late John ‘Gorey’ presented the cup to the winning team.
