Letterkenny Rovers picked up the first piece of silverware in the Donegal Youth League on Saturday when they defeated Cappry Rovers in the Dick Duffy Memorial Youth League play-off final at Station Road, St Johnston.
They meet again this weekend in the Colin Breslin Cup semi-final. Bonagee United progressed to the semi final with a 4-1 victory away against Drumbar United. Their reward for that victory is a home semi-final fixture against Erne Wanderers and in the Ulster Youth Cup, Cockhill Celtic beat Erne Wanderers 3-0. The Youth League would like to thank Kildrum Tigers FC for the use of their facilities last weekend.
For the second week in concession Cappry Rovers entertain Letterkenny rovers in the semi final of the Colin Breslin Cup. The Cathedral town side got the upper hand of them in the Dick Duffy Memorial League final but the Cappry men will be looking to turn them over especially with home advantage
In their respective quarter-final ties, Cappry Rovers defeated Rosses Academy by three goals to two and Letterkenny Rovers overcame Illistrin FC by a six goal margin. The Ballybofey based side could not contain the Letterkenny midfield trio of Dale Gorman, Dan O’Donnell and Kevin McGrath in their previous encounter and if they are to be successful on this occasion, they will have to cut off thee midfield supply to then. A close game in prospect, which could go into extra time.
Surprise packets Erne Wanderers make the journey to Letterkenny and take on Bonagee United. Both teams had difficult games to reach this far and Bonagee United will start as favourites. In the quarter finals, Bonagee United defeated Drumbar United by four goals to one and Erne Wanderers overcame Fanad United by five goals to three. The Ballyshannon side has been the surprise packets of the Donegal Youth League this season but this may well be an outing too far on this occasion.
