Letterkenny’s Colm Burns is the county’s most recent international after being selected to represent Ireland at the Canadian International Sled Dog Championships in March of this year.
What started out as a hobby and a dream as a kid turned into a competitive sport for Colm who only took up competing four years ago.
“I always wanted a husky dog as a kid and when I got one I got one, I got another and another and now I have six. I then found out that you could race them in Ireland in forests competitively and I thought I’d give it a go and now I’m heading to Canada to compete for Ireland next week so I’m delighted”
Colm, who won the All-Ireland in Galway in February of this year, will now take to the snow of Canada and try his best to bring home the title to Letterkenny for Ireland.
Not being able to train in snow like most other nations isn’t going to hold Colm on his journey.
A married man with four kids, Colm would like to thank all who have supported him in his quest to help fund the trip and welcomes any donations from people who would like to help.
