The 2012 Tír Chonaill Ladies Golf Challenge was launched in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny by the Lady Captains from the 3 clubs taking part, Letterkenny Golf Club, Dunfanaghy Golf Club and Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club on Friday 24th February. The event, a proven success is the only Ladies 3 Day Event in the country, both North and South and value for money playing 3 of Donegal’s first class parkland and links courses, has been a major factor in its popularity.
Visitors from Co. Armagh to the Southern coast participated last year with many local hotels and guest houses benefiting from the extra trade brought pre-summer.
The maximum a visitor to the clubs would pay is €45, if she chooses to play all three courses and the maximum a member of one of the participating clubs would pay is €38. In comparison with tournaments in other parts of the country, this is by far a very affordable entry fee.
The Lady Captains, Angela Kilgallen from Letterkenny Golf Club, Geraldine Regan from Dunfanaghy Golf Club and Shiela Breen from Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club look forward to welcoming returning lady golfers and new entrants this year.
There are daily prizes in each club, overall net and gross prizes and overall team prizes. Golfers may play as part of a team of three, registering their team on Day 1 in Letterkenny Golf Club. Teams and individuals must book their tee times directly by telephoning each club by the closing date of Saturday 12th May 2012.
It is hoped in 2012 to increase visitors from other parts of the country to play and stay in Donegal giving a much welcome boost to the local economy. Guesthouses, hotels and B & B’s are already preparing a package or special offer that can be circulated to clubs throughout the country.
The event is scheduled to take place on the 15th May, Letterkenny Golf Club, 16th May Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club and the 17th May Dunfanaghy Golf Club.
