Letterkenny native Cillian Morrison was on the mark as UCD came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win over Drogheda United in Friday night at the Belfield Bowl.
A first half strike from Gary O’Neill on 31 minutes gave United the lead, before two goals in five minutes from Robbie Benson and Morrison gave the Students the victory.
Benson levelled on 78 minutes before Morrison headed the winner past David Ryan after a cross from Chris Mulhall.
Buncrana’s Conor O’Donnell kept goal for UCD, while Mark McGinley from Ards was the substitute netminder.
UCD are currently in second last place in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division, joint on 11 points with Limerick FC, with both clubs ahead of Athlone Town, who have only registered one point after 11 matches.
At Oriel Park, Ballybofey’s Johnny Dunleavy and his Cork City side went down to a first defeat of the season when they were hammered 4-0 at Dundalk. The result saw the Leesiders drop from first to third place in the table behind Stephen Kenny’s Dundalk and St Patrick’s Athletic.
Also in the Premier Division, Catlefin native Raymond Foy was an 82nd minute substitute in Derry City’s 1-1 draw with Bohemians, while Ciaran Gallagher from Raphoe and Ramelton’s Tony McNamee was unused substitutes for the Brandywell outfit.
