Belgian Andreas Pereira’s deflected goal in the 11th minute of extra-time broke Leicester City hearts as Manchester United advanced into the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup after a 1-0 victory.

McConnell played centre-back in the contest that was screened live on MUTV

The Manchester United official website said: “Ryan McConnell continued to defend in resilient fashion at the heart of the defence and the solitary goal proved sufficient.”

The former Letterkenny Rovers player, who is now 18, hopes to follow in the footsteps of Ramelton’s Kyle Callan-McFadden, whose Norwich City side won the competition last season. United will now travel to face Huddersfield Town in the next round.
