Ciaran Gallagher made his Derry City debut in Friday night’s 1-1 draw against Drogheda United in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.
The 21-year-old joined the Brandywell outfit having played for Finn Harps since making his bow back in the 2009 season against Sporting Fingal. A native of Raphoe, Gallagher has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at U-17, U-18 and U-19. He had been an unused substitute the previous weekend as Cork City won 1-0 on the banks of the Foyle.
Michael Daly opened the scoring for Drogheda United at Hunky Dory’s Park shortly after the interval but sustained pressure from the visitors was finally rewarded when Cliff Byrne fired Derry Citylevel with 15 minutes left to play.
Roddy Collins’ Derry City have two points from their opening three outings and welcome league championship St Patrick’s Athletic on Friday.
