Fanad United Football Club have announced they have now appointed a new senior manager in the form of Michael Deeney.
The Triaghlough club, who have won the Ulster Senior League 14 times, have been on the lookout for a new manager after Ollie Horgan left the club to take over at Finn Harps in November.
A club statement from Fanad United reads:
“After serious consideration, Michael Deeney has now been installed as the new senior coach at the club. Although relatively unknown to most people Michael was the best candidate for the job. Michael who played senior professional football for a number of years in Scotland has vast experience and understanding of the game and was involved in many different teams and setups throughout his career.
“He moved to Ramelton two years ago and has been very active in the Swilly Rovers underage teams ever since, most recently being the coach of the hugely successful Swilly U-15 and U-16 teams which are now at the latter stages of the national cups and he is held amongst very high regards within any team which he’s been involved with and is seen as one of the best up and coming coaches in this area.
“Michael “Dixie” Deeney is very keen to see youth football being developed and furthered in this area and this is one of the main reason we as a club appointed him as senior coach as he intends to continue on the good work which our previous managers Ollie Horgan and Michael Herrity have done with youth development through our senior team in the past two years.”
