Stadium to get off ground
Finn Harps’ new stadium in Stranorlar is expected to finally get off the ground early in the new year.

Finn Harps’ new stadium in Stranorlar is expected to finally get off the ground early in the new year.

All the preparatory work has been done, club secretary John Campbell told the Democrat last night. Campbell also said that he expects the eagerly awaited project finally to begin to take shape in the first few months of 2014.

“We have done a lot of work on the ground in the last three months or so. The ground has been fenced off and all the filling has been done and we are now ready to see significant progress in the first three to four months of next year.

“We’ve had discussions with the builder in recent weeks and I expect to see work begin on the next phase, which is the stand and clubrooms, early in 2014.”

This will come as a huge relief to Harps fans who had almost given up hope on ever seeing the new stadium being built.

The new stadium, which has been under development for a number of years, is situated on Railway Road in Stranorlar. The site is situated close to the Finn Valley Centre and the Stranorlar mart and across the river from the club’s current home.
