Finn Harps are up to second spot in the SSE Airtricity First Division following Sunday’s impressive 3-0 win over Shamrock Rovers B at the Tallaght Stadium in Dublin.
Shamrock Rovers B 0
Finn Harps 3
It was Harps’ first ever appearance at the venue and the victory was Ollie Horgan’s first in the league as manager.
And given that they were without several key players including captain, Kevin McHugh and Sean McCarron, the win was all the more impressive.
Shelbourne are the early leaders in the division with two wins from two games. For Harps, it’s a draw and a win and they lie second on their own having yet to concede a goal.
Two goals in the space of four second half minutes paved the way for the victory on Sunday.
Michael Funston’s penalty eleven minutes into the second half made it 2-0 to the visitors and on 59 minutes, Pat McCann more or less killed off the Rovers challenge with the third.
Harps were much the better team and after controlling the first half, they got the goal their pressure deserved when Keith Cowan headed them in front just before half time.
Next up for Harps is a home game against Cobh Ramblers at Finn Park on Friday night.
