“Me and Mark are good mates and I just wanted to do something to show him that we are thinking about him,” stated McHugh of 31-year-old Farren, whoGreencastle made one appearance for Harps back in the 2000/2001 season.

“He was delighted that we are doing something and I’m delighted that the PFAI are also on board,” McHugh added.

“At the minute the response I have received since posting the news on facebook and twitter has been incredible and because of it we may have to change the route.

“I’ll be speaking to some of Mark’s old team-mates at Derry City and I know that Finn Harps players are using the run as part of their pre-season preparations.

“There are also a number of other League of Ireland players who have been in touch in regards anything they can do.”
