Finn Harps have re-signed former skipper Packie Mailey ahead of their return to pre-season in January.
It means that the Convoy native joins Kevin McHugh, Sean McCarron, Thomas Bonnar, Michael Funston, Damien McNulty, James Doherty and Ciaran Coll in committing to the Ballybofey club, where former Fanad United manager Ollie Horgan will take charge.
Central defender Mailey stranger to Finn Harps or the club’s supporters having had a three year spell at the club between 2009 and 2011. During that time, Mailey played 82 times for the club and scored five goals.
“As a life long Harps fan it’s great to be back at the club again,” Mailey said. “Ollie has laid out his plans for what he wants and I’m delighted that he has asked me to be a part of those plans. I can’t wait now for the hard work of pre-season training to begin in January ahead of the new season.”
Mailey made his Harps debut as a substitute in a 4-1 League Cup defeat against Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds in May 2009. His first start came four days later in a 1-1 draw against Limerick at Finn Park – a game that was to be Paul Hegarty’s last in charge of Harps. From that on, he was a mainstay in the Harps team until he departed the club at the end of the 2011 season.
Horgan was delighted to welcome Mailey to the club. “It’s great that Packie has joined us and he knows exactly what this club is all about having been here in the past. We are continuing to get our squad in place for the new season and Packie is another welcome addition to the eight who we have already confirmed for next year.”
