Swilly Rovers will join Finn Harps and Cockhill Celtic in this year’s FAI Senior Cup.
The Ramelton side lost out to UCD 6-1 last month in the third round of the FAI Intermediate Cup.
All teams that reach the fourth round gain entry into the FAI Senior Cup. That was the case for Cockhill Celtic following their 2-1 win over Crumlin United.
But UCD have a team in the Airtricity League, meaning their intermediate side are not allowed in the senior cup.
Swilly, the Ulster Senior League side who won the Knockalla Caravans Cup last season, and Cockhill will go into the draw for the first round of the competition, which is due to take place in early April.
Harps and the other league teams will enter the FAI Cup then at the second round stage.
“It’s a nice bonus to be included and it’s a game for the boys too look forward too early in the season and maybe be an incentive to get a few new faces into the club,” Swilly manager Jason Gibson said.
“It would also be nice to get a favourable home draw with chance to progress into the second round against the senior clubs. We’ll also obviously be better prepared around April time when the fixture comes up that we were against UCD.
