Amber Barrett is having a week to remember having won a county championship as well as scoring on her debut for the Republic of Ireland U-19 ladies in Portugal.
The Milford native scored 1-7 as her local side defeated Aodh Ruadh 3-9 to 4-4 in Sunday’s dramatic County Ladies Intermediate final in Ballybofey.
Then, on Tuesday, the 17-year-old scored an 85th minute equaliser to secure a 1-1 friendly draw against Portugal at the Dr Jorge Sampaio Municipal Stadium in Pedroso.
“It’s always great to win a County Championship and then in the same week scoring a goal for your country made it a great week all round,” the Leaving Cert student from Loreto Community School in Milford said yesterday.
Ireland are due to host a Uefa qualifying group that contains Denmark, Greece and Kazakhstan with six games taking place in the Dublin area from September 21 to 26.
Ireland play Portugal again today, Thursday, at 11am local time in the Canelas Stadium in Porto.
“The final squad for the home qualifiers isn’t decided yet so I’m hoping I get the chance to be involved,” Barrett added.
