Harps lose out in Athlone

The leaders in the First Division, Athlone Town, stretched their lead at the top of the table following Friday night’s narrow win over Finn Harps.

New signing, Enda Curran, scored the only goal of the game 11 minutes from the end to give Athlone a hard earned win.

For Harps, it was another disappointing night. They went into this game buoyed by a 1-0 win over Wexford Youths last weekend. However, they were unable to build on that result as Athlone got the better of them for the third time this season.

With Longford Town held to a goal-less draw at Wexford Youths on Friday night, Athlone are now two points clear at the top.

Third placed Waterford United closed the gap on Longford Town following an impressive 5-1 at Salthill Devon.

Harps remain fifth in the table but are now eight points off the promotion play-off spot.
