It was a great day for jumping in Donegal, the fine weather held out and a big crowd turned up to jump.

The course for the day provided a challenging but free flowing test for the horses. First up to start the day was Laura McGowan from Ballybofey on her young horse Jessie and she went clear in the 40 and 50 cm classes. There were plenty of clears in the 50cm class with Lauren Bradley on Summer and Damaris Scott on Daisy providing the best rounds of the class. Kimberly and Aimee Calderhead all the way from Scotland took part in their first competition but unfortunately didn’t go clear.

Things began to heat up in the 60cm class with those going clear taking part in the jump off. There were plenty of nerves as for many it was their first jump off competition. First into the arena was Blair Kellie (all the way from Scotland) on Tango who jumped clear and set a great target of 56.04 secs. Next up was a fast round with Megan Boner on Midnight Dancer of 41.38 sec but unfortunately one pole down. Dara Beth McLoone on Myle knew what had to be done and set off with determination and returned with a clear in 52.06 secs claiming 3rd place. Robert Robertson on Barney was next up with a clear of 51.47 secs taking 2nd place. But Shane Harley on Charlie who was last in took 1st in a time of 46.07 secs.

Four horses made it to the jump off in the 70 cm class. Nuala O’Donnell on Dawn was first in to test the jump off course and picked up a respectable time of 51.96 secs on the big horse to take 3rd place. Dara McLoone on Myle upped the speed and went clear in 48.88 sec claiming 2nd place. Lucy Stewart on Dedo had plenty of coaching from her side kick and found all the tight turns and came home in a time of 40.77 secs taking 1st place. Last in to ride was Lisa Ferguson on Heidi who went clear but couldn’t beat the other times.

In the 80 cm class six horses made it to the jump off. Conal Watters, Jayne Robinson and Stephanie Long all picked up 4 faults. Mona Vial on Jonnie Cash took 3rd place with a time of 51.72 secs, Lucy Stewart on Dedo took 2nd place in a time of 44.34 sec, her jump off course didn’t work out second time round and 1st place in the class went to Charlie Vial on Ozzy in a time of 38.61 secs.

In the 90 cm class five horses went through to the jump off. Conal Watters on Tara Lady, Martin McGowan on Jacko and Charlie Vial on Ozzy all picked up 4 faults as they attemped to get a good time. Charlie Vial took 3rd place as the fastest 4 faulter. Megan Boner on Creggan Boy was 2nd and went clear in a time 38.33 secs but she was pipped to the post by Karl Kee on Alistair who took 1st place in a time of 36.86 sec with a fantastic round.

The 1m class had 6 through to the jump off. Megan Boner was first up and went all out for speed with the crowd on the edge of their seats as she flew around the course in the fastest time of the day of 36.40 sec but unfortunately picked up 4 faults. Next in was Karl Kee on Alistair who jumped clear and into 1st place setting a time of 39.93 sec to beat. Shane Harley on Bambi jumped a lovely round but they were too slow. Next up it was Martin McGowan on Jacko and they were agonisingly close to 1st place recording a time of 41.51 secs and taking 2nd place. Marie Molloy picked up 3rd place with a time of 42.02 secs followed closely by Seamus Campbell on Paddy in a time of 44.20 secs.
