Their U-14 team managed by former Aodh Ruadh player Patrick McGovern, have been based in Bundoran and played Aodh Ruadh and Bundoran on Tuesday evening as part of their preparation.

Patrick has a panel of 24, including his daughter, Thersa. The panel includes three of last year’s team which won the Division 4 title in Tullamore. There is a Chinese girl, a Greek and a half Spanish but most of them are first generatl New Yorkers.

Last year Patrick had his older daughter Molly as part of the team and he has sights set on the double. New York will be hosted by the Steelstown club in Derry.

The panel leave their base in the Holyrood this morning and travel to Derry.

They will be taking in the tourist spots such as the Giants Causeway and Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge.

Also involved with the team is New York coach, Simon Gillespie, formerly Aodh Ruadh, along with Noeleen O’Neill (Leitrim) and Vincent Tyer.

“We have had wonderful weather and I’m getting the credit for it,” quips Patrick.
