PHILIP DEIGNAN gets his season underway today in the week-long Tour de San Luis in Argentina.
The Letterkenny cyclist is part of the eight-man United Healthcare team that will compete against 10 other teams, including Mark Cavandish’s Omega Pharma Quickstep, Peter Sagan’s Team Cannondale and Alberto Contador’s Saxo Tonkoff. Today’s road stage covers 146km between San Luis and Villa Mercedes.
“I lost a bit of time with sickness over Christmas but overall I’m happy with my form,” Deignan said. “The team is shaping up pretty well but even though Cavendish and Sagan are here, we want to win the flat stage with sprinter Jake Keogh. Personally, I want to test my fitness on some of the hillier stages.”
