Damian Hayes, the Galway hurling All-Star, was he special guest at the Aodh Ruadh underage hurling presentation on Wednesday night last.

Hayes was following in the footsteps of some of the top stars of Irish hurling at the event. Tommy Walsh of Kilkenny was the special guest last year while Michael Fennelly, Davy Fitzgerald and Joe Canning have been guests in recent years.

Damian, from Portumna, the same club as Canning, is a busy man at the moment, having just returned from an All-Star trip to New York and he is also getting married in two weeks’ time.

The 30 year old told the young hurlers of Aodh Ruadh that he was playing 12 seasons with Galway, but was still willing to learn.

“We had a new manager this year and I was willing to listen and learn new things.

“You only get out of hurling what you put in and I have had a passion for it for many years,” said Damian.

Hayes is one of the most decocrated Galway hurlers with three All-Ireland club titles.

The Galway star presented medals to all the different age groups and there were special presentations for the three Aodh Ruadh hurlers who were selected on the Ulster U-16 panel - Jamie Brennan, Eddie Lynch and Colm Kelly.
