Colaiste na Carraige U-16s had an easy passage to the Ulster Vocational semi-final as they proved much too strong for St. Joseph’s, Enniskillen, in Bundoran.
Colaiste na Carraige 4-17
St. Joseph’s, Enniskillen 1-4
The game was to be played on Thursday, but had to be put back 24 hours because of the severe rain which left the pitch waterlogged, but it was in good shape when the game was played on Friday.
The game as a contest was over inside three minutes with Colaiste na Carraige having three goals on the scoreboard at that stage through Philip McNern, Pauric O’Neill and Padraig Byrne, the first two coming within 30 seconds of each other inside two minutes.
By half-time, the Carrick boys were 4-8 to 0-1 ahead with Brian O’Donnell getting the fourth goal on 23 minutes.
St. Joseph’s were not helped when Dermot Russell was shown a red card after picking up two yellows after just 15 minutes of the contest.
The second half saw the Enniskillen boys come more into the game, but that was due more to Colaiste na Carraige easing off, and at the end a knee injury to full-back Jamie McGinley was the biggest concern for Neilly Byrne and Paddy Boyle as they were already thinking of their Ulster semi-final clash with Draperstown (which is scheduled for Friday next).
