Greenbank and Carrigart tops in James McKinley Memorial badminton
The finals of the 2012/2013 James McKinley Memorial Cup and Plate U-12 Mixed Badminton competition team competition took place recently with Greenbank winning the Cup and Carrigart taking the Plate.
The Ozanam Centre, Dunfanaghy, was the venue for the competition, which was organised by Billy Love. The home club, Dunfanaghy, gave a very warm welcome to all the attendants and provided tea, sandwiches, home baking and refreshments to all coahes, parents and kids.
James McKinley Cup - Division One
The three teams in the finals of the Cup saw Greenbank defeat Newtown 4-3 and Raphoe also beat Newtown 5-2. In the final match, the defending champinos, Raphoe took an earlyl lead but Greenbank responded.
There was nothing between the sides and they finished with 8 points each, but with Greenbank winning the head to head (4-3), they lifted the James McKinley Cup for the first time in their history.
James McKinley Memorial Plate Division Two
Competition in the Plate was also very tough as three teams battled for hte honours. Carrigart emerged as winners, pushing Dunfanaghy A into second place with Dunfanaghy B in third.
Gloria and Willie McKinley, parents of James McKinley, were on hand to make the presentations.
