Quigley on verge of European final
Donegal boxer Jason Quigley is boxing for a place in the European U-23 boxing final in Russia, this afternoon.
Quigley, boxing at middleweight, earned a 12-9 decision in Saturday’s quarter final over the durable Moldovan Victor Carapchevschii.
The win means the Twin Towns man will at least take home a bronze medal from the championships.
“Jason boxed very well and he won all three rounds against a tough opponent today and we’re delighted to have another boxer through to the semi-finals, said Irish team manager and coach John Finn, after Saturday’s fight.
The 2009 European Youth champion will now face Russia’s Maksim Timofeev, in today’s semi-final, where victory will guarantee him a silver medal and a crack at gold.
