Dungloe earned two valuable points against Kilcar at Rosses Park on Sunday as Adrian Hanlon hammered in 2-6.
While Kilcar fielded without county players Mark McHugh and Patrick McBrearty, it was Dungloe’s county panellist Adrian Hanlon who started his side’s victory and had the last say when the final whistle sounded in glorious afternoon sunshine.
Hanlon raised the first white flag of the game pointing from play and Adrian Sweeney pointed from a free, while Kilcar had to watch their scoring chances fall wide of the post or being cleared out by the ever staunch Dungloe back line.
Hanlon pointed a free on 14 minutes and both sides had wides before Shaun Sharkey stretched his side’s lead further. His was quickly followed by points from Hanlon, with two and Sweeney’s free.
Kilcar finally came to life when Ryan McHugh pointed from a free and Michael Hegarty pointed to leave the half-time score Dungloe 0-7 Kilcar 0-2.
Hanlon had his home side further ahead after the restart firing to the back of the net after running onto a great pass from corner back Jack Scally and it was Hanlon from a free who put nine between the sides in the early stages of the second half.
Ciaran McGinley pointed for Kilcar in a goal mouth-scramble that could have been a goal. Ryan McHugh pointed from a free to keep his side in touch but it was danger man Hanlon who put his side in the driving seat to victory hitting another goal on 43 minutes.
Substitute Mathew McClean, who replaced Noel Hegarty in the second half, pointed for Kilcar and Ryan McHugh pointed three frees to reduce the deficit.
Dungloe were reduced to 14 men when midfielder Raymond Sweeney was shown a second yellow by referee Ian Molloy but Hanlon had the final say of the day.
