Buncrana, who are also in the shake up for promotion, opened in a whirlwind fashion with two wides before Francie Friel fed Kevin McDaid for Termon’s opening point. Two Oran Doherty points and a Ryan Bradley special put Buncrana two points up on the 20 minute mark.

Player manager Paddy McDaid reduced Buncrana’s lead with a point before Donnacha O’Connor, son of a famous Roscommon footballer, extended Buncrana’s advantage.

Then the move of the game started in midfield for Termon and ended with Aiden Sweeney giving Noel O’Donnell in the Buncrana goal no chance from the edge of the small square . The lively Oran Doherty levelled matters on the stroke of half-time with a point to leave Termon 1-2 Buncrana 0-5 .

On the resumption Termon introduced John McCafferty for Ollie Doherty. But it was Oran Doherty who put Buncrana in the lead with a point. Paddy McDaid again levelled matters before Trevor Alcorn in a wonder move fielded at the halfway line, soloed in to the 20 metre line put Termon in the lead.

Buncrana management, sensing that Termon were bossing proceedings, introduced former County player Paul McGonagle. This coincided with Shaun O’Donnell being shown a second yellow card and Termon reduced to fourteen players.

McGonagle with three unanswered points put Buncrana in a great position going into the final minutes. But then disaster struck for Buncrana. A wayward Ryan Bradley pass at midfield was seized upon by John McCafferty. A long ball in the direction of Christy Connaghan fell from goalkeeper Noel O’Donnell’s hand. O’Donnell committed a foul on Connaghan and referee Martin Coll awarded Termon a penalty. With light fading Connaghan sent O’Donnell the wrong way to level matters, and from the kick out the final whistle sounded to the relief of both teams.

Best for Termon was Kevin McGettigan, Kevin McDaid and Trevor Alcorn. Buncrana was best served by goalkeeper Michael O’Donnell, who had three point blank stops, Oran Doherty at midfield while Ccunty player Ryan Bradley just gets the nod for man of the match ahead of O’Donnell
