Glenswilly’s Ciaran Bonner made his Connacht championship debut on Sunday for London against Leitrim in Ruislip.
The former Donegal player was sprung from the bench before half-time but his introduction could not deny Leitrim, who were given something of a fright as they came from behind to win by a point.
Man of the match for the Shannonsiders’ was Melvin Gael’s Emlyn Mulligan, a man with strong Donegal ties with his mother Grace from Gorthahork.
Mulligan, who went to Colaiste Chomcille in Ballyshannon, kicked five of his team’s 12 points as Leitrim look forward to semi-final meeting with Mayo in Castlebar, at the end of the month.
Donegal Ladies win Interprovincial medals
Donegal Lady Gaelic footballers Geraldine McLaughlin, Aoife McDonnell and Ciara Hegarty are all celebrating MMI Interprovincial success this week.
All three were on the Ulster side that defeated Munster in the final of the annual tournament on Saturday afternoon, in Kinnegad, Co. Westmeath. Ulster qualified for the final – a repeat of last year’s decider, won by Munster – with easy wins in the round robin section of the tournament over Connacht and Leinster as well as Munster.
After defeating the Munster girls in the earlier round, 2-13 to 2-9, they also had four points to spare at the end of the final on a 0-14 to 1-7 scoreline.
