Donegal are sending a 20-man panel to the Kennedy Cup in Limerick next week in high hopes.
This prestigious U-14 competition will see Donegal get their first taste of action on Monday evening when they take on Kildare Schoolboys at 7pm. This year Donegal have been drawn in group six, where we will meet formidable opposition from North Dublin Schoolboys League, North Tipperary and Kildare Schoolboys.
However, Donegal too are well prepared and the Donegal Schoolboys League currently enjoys been held in high esteem following their achievements on the national stage in recent seasons. Nobody will be taking Donegal for granted and we are capable of beating anyone on our day at all age groups at the present time.
The second game we are scheduled to contest this year kicks off at 12 noon on Tuesday, when North Tipperary provide the opposition and they complete the group stage later that evening with a match against NDSL kick off 7pm.
The remainder of the week will be determined by how Donegal progress in the group with the lads playing further matches as the week goes on. Good luck to all the players and team manager Aidan Gallagher, who is assisted by Malcolm McCormick and anyone else involved with the squad.
The website is eventually starting to take shape and can be followed at www.donegalsl.ie and we hope to do an overview of the 2011/12 season in the local press when the games have all been completed.
Action has winded down in all four divisions of the league with only a handful of games remaining in the season. One of those games will take place on Thursday (tonight) at Finn Park, Ballybofey when the re-scheduled Under-12 Champions League Final takes centre stage. Castlefin Celtic and Dungloe Town will compete for one of the most coveted crowns in underage soccer in the county. A sizeable crowd is expected at the game and kick-off will be at 7.30pm.
On Friday night the U-10 league continues in the South division where two rounds of games remain and other than these fixtures the only other outstanding matches will be the U-14 Champions League semi-finals and final. These games have been postponed until after the Kennedy Cup.
