Naomh Conaill took another giant step in the defence of their league crown with this eight point victory over Dungloe in Davy Brennan Memorial Park on Sunday afternoon.
Naomh Conaill 2-9
The reigning league champions also had eight points to spare on Friday night in their local derby clash with Ardara.
They got off to a dream start against the Rosses men with an A.J. Gallagher goal inside 20 seconds and John O’Malley kicked their first point before Benny McGarvey opened the Dungloe account.
An Adrian Sweeney brace brought Dungloe right back into the game and with Mark Forker denied by the upright Dermot ‘Brick’ Molloy landed the locals’ second point.
Adrian Sweeney and John O’Malley traded points as Dungloe rose to the challenge and after their second goal attempt was deflected out for a ‘45’, McGarvey converted and Eoin Redmond pointed to square up the game with 20 minutes on the clock.
In the closing seconds of the half Eoin Waide edged the champions one in front again, 1-4 to 0-6.
Darragh Gallagher and Noel McBride exchanged points on the resumption before Gallagher and Thomas Donoghue eased the locals three in front again.
With Stephen McGrath denying Forker with a top drawer save Johnny McLoone extended the Naomh Conaill lead out to four. And when Darragh Gallagher pounced for goal number two with four minutes remaining, it was all over and another two points for Naomh Conaill.
