Gaoth Dobhair 4-6

Aodh Ruadh 1-10

In a cracking contest that rekindled many great encounters between the two clubs down the years at all levels, Gaoth Dobhair emerged the victors with five points to spare.

Ciaran Mulligan, Daire O’Baoill and Gavin McBride scored the first half goals that gave the boys from the Gaeltacht a six point half-time cushion as they led 3-3 to 0-6.

Mulligan’s goal, Gaoth Dobhair’s opening score, erased Aodh Ruadh’s two point early advantage while O’Baoill found the back of the Aodh Ruadh net towards the end of the first half and McBride struck for goal number three on the stroke of half-time.

Eddie Lynch, Philip Patton, Colm Kelly and Shane McGrath had the Aodh Ruadh first half points who performed very well early on before being hit by the two late first half goals.

A Philip Patton goal followed by a Stephen Thompson goal had Aodh Ruadh back in the contest in the early minutes of the second half.

Shane McGrath had a goal chance but it was a goal and point from Joe McFadden which steered Gaoth Dobhair clear again before Daire O’Baoill and Aodhan Ferry rounded off the scoring as Tom ‘Beag’ Gillespie’s side went on to win.

In what was a truly magnificent all round team performance Patrick Cribbin, James Boyle, Ciaran Gillespie and Ryan Kelly were outstanding in defence while Ciaran Mulligan and Niall Ferry put in brilliant performances at midfield. Mulligan’s goal was a brilliant individual effort as he raced through from midfield to rattle the Aodh Ruadh net to get his team’s show up and running.

Daire O’Baoill, Joe McFadden and Gavin McBride, who all found the Aodh Ruadh net, were in illuminating form in attack.

Matthew Maguire was outstanding for Aodh Ruadh at full-back while Colm Kelly, Niall Harley, Eddie Lynch, Eugene Drummond, Nathan Boyle and Kevin Warnock also impressed.
