The side mananged by Ollie Horgan were pushed all the way in this game and had to come from behind twice to get the point that they required. Swilly almost got off to the perfect start when they were awarded a penalty after five minutes when Shaun McElwaine handled in the box, but the Fanad ‘keeper Lee McFadden saved brilliantly from Laurence Toland.
Kyle Black forced Swilly ‘keeper Barry Molloy into a good save moments later. Swilly’s Marty McDaid then had a good effort blocked by Kieran Gorman for a Swilly corner from which they were awarded their second penalty when Seamie ‘Coshia’ Friel was penalised. This time it was Michael Doherty who stepped up and blasted past McFadden to give Swilly the lead. Fanad put a bit of pressure on Swilly now and were rewarded on the stroke of half time when young Seamie Friel scored to make it 1-1 at half-time. Swilly started the second half all guns blazing when Toland hit a tremendous effort from 25 yards only to see his effort crash off the Fanad crossbar. Swilly were not to be denied though when moments later Marty McDaid scored from a Doherty corner. Fanad got their second equaliser when Kyle Black headed to the back of the Swilly net with 20 minutes to go.
