Donegal Town Snooker Club is the proud host of the 2012 County Championship with matches taking place over the past two weeks. This prestigious event attracts the top players from all over the County and it is back in Donegal Town for the first time since 2005. The County Cup, the David Hanna Jnr. Memorial Cup, is proudly sponsored by Hanna Hats.
Sean McVeigh looks, on present form, to be the man to beat as he disposed of defending champion Anthony Bonner by three frames to one. He will now face Phelim McClafferty, who defeated Paul Thomas 3-1 in their match.
Terry Mullin and Paul McGinley will now meet each other after wins over Gary Harron and Mickey Duffy respectively. Adrian McFadden will face local hope Rory Buchanan after McFadden had a good win over Paul Doherty.
In the bottom half of the draw, Simon Connelly is up against Mattie Mahon in a match to take place on Wednesday night. Also on Wednesday will be the meeting of leading local hopeful Shane Faulkner against the ever impressive Johnny Connors. The winner of the meeting between Aidan McFadden and Aidan Devaney will face last year’s runner-up Gareth Boyle in the last eight. McFadden had a good 3-2 victory over Columba O’Donnell, while Devaney has beaten Phelim Brady and Pat Bonner to reach the last 16.
Matches continue all week, with the majority to be played this Wednesday night, and any spectators are welcome to come along and watch what will be some excellent games. Donegal Town Snooker Club would like to thank the main sponsor Hanna Hats and all club members who continue to contribute to the running of the tournament.
