Johnny Dunleavy was Cork City’s saviour with a dramatic 88th minute equaliser in the Airtricity League Premier Division against Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium on Friday night.
The Ballybofey native headed home following a cross from Tadhg Purcell to ensure a share of the spoils in the final game before the mid-season break. Champions Rovers looked to have stolen the points with an 85th minute goal from Gary Twigg, following a cross from Aaron Greene.
However, Dunleavy, who played locally for Ballybofey United before spending four years at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he was on a professional contract after coming through the club’s academy, popped up to level matters.
The point leaves Cork, who won the First Division last season, in eighth place in the top flight, with 17 points from their first 14 fixtures this term.
