Letterbarrow’s Brian McGroary made his competitive debut for Derry City on Friday night, coming on as a substitute two minutes from time in the 2-0 win.

McGroary spent two years at the Wolverhampton Wanderers academy alongside Johnny Dunlevy from Ballybofey, who was part of the Cork side at the Brandywell. Two Donegal men scored for the Candystripes - Mark Farren from Greencastle put Derry ahead on 49 after a superb Barry Molloy pass. A mistake by Cork keeper Mark McNulty gifted Derry’s second goal to Stephen McLaughlin - a native of Doagh Island - four minutes later. Matthew Crossan from Killea came on for the last 13 minutes. City play away to Drogheda this Friday.
