Three Rivers Shotokan Karate Club success in Monaghan

The club travelled to Monaghan on Sunday the 11th of March for a competition over a hundred competitors from different clubs were involved in the competition.

First event of the day was girls under eight Kata; Aimee Lafferty won this event for the club. In the under eight boys Kata Shane McNulty, Declan Doherty, and Oisin Kelly were involved, Shane and Declan reached the final were Shane came out the winner and Declan came 2nd in a very tight final. Oisin finished a very good 4th place.

Next was under 10 girls Kata. Rachael McClure and Caoimhe Crawford were involved for the Three Rivers. Rachael finish in 1st place with Caoimhe finishing 4th place.

In the under 10 boys Kata Christopher Doherty, Ryan Doherty and Kevin McColgan were involved, the boys did very well but the judges seem to favour the local clubs with their decisions.

In the under 12 girls Kata Kelsey McGavigan was the winner for Three River’s with some very good competitors in this Kata.

In the boys under 12 Kata Darragh Clarke finish a very good 2nd place.

In the girls under 15 Kata Shannon Crawford finish a very good 3rd place for the club.

In the boys under 15 Kata Shane Brennan finish 3rd with Darryl finishing 2nd place.

In the under 12 Team Kata, Three Rivers had four teams involved Team A was Shane McNulty, Darragh Clarke and Oisin Kelly. Team B was Christopher Doherty, Declan Doherty and Ryan Doherty. Team C was Aimee Lafferty Caoimhe Crawford and Aoife Lafferty. Team D was Kevin McColgan, Rachael McClure and Rebecca McColgan. Team B finished a very good 2nd place, with team C coming 3rd and team A 4th and Team D finishing 5th.

In the girls under 8 Kumite Aimee Lafferty finished in 3rd place, in the boys under 8 Kumite Oisin Kelly came 4th.

In the under 10 girls Kumite Rachael McClure and Aoife Lafferty were involved, Rachael finish in 1st place, making it two wins for her on the day as she won the under 10 Kata.

In the under 10 boys Kumite, Christopher Doherty Kevin McColgan and Ryan Doherty were involved. The three boys did very well but again the Judges seem to favour the local Clubs.

In the under 14 Kumite Shane Brennan was involved for The Three Rivers, Shane was up against some very good boys from the local Clubs, losing out to the eventual winner.

One of the top girls in the club Shara Martin travelled to Monaghan but was unable to compete due to an injury received in training.

Team Coach Martin McNamee was very happy with the way his Club did. The Club would like to thank all the supporters who travelled to Monaghan. The club are holding their annual sponsored walk on Saturday 7th April and will begin from the Lifford Resource Centre at 12 noon.
