Two goals in each half, courtesy of inform striker Michelle Doherty was enough to see of the challenge of Gavin Kieran’s side. Mulroy were the superior outfit on the field but Wilson’s willingness to take on their opposition was outstanding.

There were very few clear cut chances for either side and a moment of defensive weakness seven minutes from the interval was enough to give Mulroy the lead.

Captain Tanita Dorrian played an inviting ball into the feet of Aoife McDevitt who in turn feed goalscorer Doherty right on the six yard line. The young striker rounded keeper Kristina Franklin to roll the ball into the back of the net.

The second period saw both teams evenly matched. Wilson’s Davina Harns played an excellent ball into the box from the left wing but Gillian Cunningham was just lacking the pace as Orla McGonigle intercepted.

Chances were few and far between but Doherty scorned an excellent opportunity to double their lead as she pulled the ball to the left of the post on the hour mark. The striker made up for this 18 minutes later when she rounded keeper Franklin for a second time to provide the match winner.

Mentors McAteer and McGovern suffered a heavy defeat last season in their All-Ireland series outing but have done one better this time around and they will be hoping to continue their momentum into the All-Ireland final.

The Ulster Champions will nervously await the outcome of the other semi-final as defending All Ireland Champions Coláiste Iósaef, Kilmallock take on Our Lady’s Secondary School, Belmullet this afternoon at Salthill Devon FC in what should prove to be a thrilling encounter.
