On the 21st of April the roads of Ardara will be open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities in what promises to be a fantastic charity event.

We had our official launch of the Ardara 10k A.K.A ‘The Ardarathon’ on Friday last at the Nesbitt Arms Hotel. Prior to this much work was put in last year to get an available date for the event that would fit into the running circuit for this year and Patsy McGonagle and Neil Martin (Chairman, Donegal Athletic Board) was very influential in making this possible, so also we will hopefully get some top Northwest runners competing on the day.

The chairman of the organising committee, Michael Maguire said: “I always felt Ardara would be perfect to stage an event of his nature and I am delighted now that we can hopefully make a stamp on the Running Calender and make The Ardara 10k an annual race for the years to come. Its such a nice humble location where the town is ideally married into the countryside and the participants on the day will get a great opportunity to see this as they make there way around the course.

“The “Ardarathon” is open to everyone. Whether you are a seasoned athlete of a novas you are welcome to compete on the day. You can register as a runner or walker and take as much time as possible to finish. Mothers can push there prams and strollers, pet owners can walk there dogs, we really want to advertise this as a family day out were people can come and enjoy themselves and contribute to charity as they get fit and active,” said Michael.

Sponsorship cards and flyers are now in Ardara’s local businesses and more information can be found on our facebook page. This year proceeds from our event will go to the very worthy Charity’s of ‘Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin” and ‘The Charlie Bennett Memorial Fund’. Registration will take place on the day in the Ardara Parish Centre from 11am, the race will also begin and end at this location. Race starts at 2pm. Refreshments will be served after. There is also an after party in the Nesbitt Arms Hotel that night with music being provided by ‘Guilty of Rhythm’.
