Only two quarter finals of this seasons Colin Breslin Cup were played at the weekend due to the bad weather.
Letterkenny Rovers against Illistrin was called off due to a frozen pitch on Friday evening and on Saturday Drumbar’s tie against Bonagee United was also a victim of the weather due to a waterlogged pitch. Of the games played, last seasons Colin Breslin Cup winners Fanad United were beaten away from home by Erne Wanderers 5-3 and in another action packed tie Cappry Rovers overcame Rosses Academy by the odd goal in five thanks mainly to sharp shooter Aaran Kelly who helped himself to a hat-trick.
This weekend clubs are again in cup action with four games done for decision in the Ulster FA Youth Cup with the tie of the weekend the clash between league play off finalists Letterkenny Rovers and Cappry Rovers.
Cappry Rovers 3
A Kelly (12, 60, 80)
G McGhee (50), D Hanlon (65)
Cappry Rovers and Rosses Academy served up an interesting battle despite the awkward conditons at Cappry Park with Aaron Kelly grabbing a hat-trick.
The home team went at the Rosses and were rewarded with the opener when Kyle Lafferty put in a perfect corner and Kelly rose high to head the ball into the net. In the second half Rosses levelled when Gary McGhee who drilled the ball low past the Cappry keeper. Cappry regained the lead after Kyle Lafferty played a lovely ball to Bernard Lafferty on the left who crossed it into the center for the incoming Kelly to slot it past the advancing keeper. Again Rosses piled on the pressure and got back on terms when Darragh Hanlon to get his head to it and direct it into the net.
Cappry eventually got the winner, Stephen Mulligan took a free kick from the edge of the box, he found an in-form Kelly at the near post who slotted the ball past the keeper.
