Donegal manager Micheal Naughton has landed the plum job of managing the 2010 All-Star Ladies football team for next May’s Ladies All-Star trip to Canada.
Naughton, who guided Donegal to an All-Ireland Intermediate championship in 2010, will be calling the shots when the 2010 All-Stars face the 2011 All-Stars in an exhibition game in Toronto at the end of May.
“I couldn’t believe it at first, when I got the call. It certainly was a nice surprise,” said Micheal, who only last month returned to the Donegal hot seat after taking a year out due to work commitments.
“It promises to be a great trip and I’m really looking forward to it and it should be an enjoyable week and to have the two Donegal girls on board even makes it more special.”
Donegal players Yvonne McMonagle, an All-Star in 2010, and her team mate Niamh Hegarty, from Moville, who has received a call-up as a replacement All-Star, will also make the trip.
Both are currently living and working in Australia having gone there last year. But Micheal has already been in contact with both ladies and they have confirmed they will be home to make the trip.
And the manager did not rule out that he will have a good chat with the two ladies during the trip and may even try to twist their arms to maybe return home and commit to Donegal for the Ulster championship.
The trip is for nine days departing Dublin on May 23rd and returning on June 1st with the highlight an exhibition game between the 2010 and the 2011 team at Centennial Park, Toronto on Saturday May 26th.
