NATALIE MCCARRON got a pleasant surprse last week after winning a second Professional World Kickboxing title in the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny.

PT’s Kickboxing Gym Derry and Donegal kickboxer Natalie had just became Ireland’s first ever Woman’s Professional Kickboxing Champion of the world back in July in front of Sky television cameras and received a call from the Taoiseach’s Secretary and had just added another world title. At first she thought it was a prank call, but after speaking to PT’s PRO Sean McGill about who it was, she was taken aback to say the least.

Natalie and Co travelled to Government Buildings on Wednesday and met with Mr Enda Kenny in his private office. They chatted for around 40 minutes about life in Derry, Donegal, Kickboxing and about her life in general and her training regime. At one stage Natalie mentioned a friend of hers being a big fan of the Taoiseach, he then asked her for his number and to her shock her called them!

She said: “He is a lovely man and although he was not a big kickboxing fan he did tell me him to keep him updated with her future fight.”

PT’s head Coach Paddy Toland said: “It was a really good gesture from the Taoiseach to invite us down to Government buildings, and acknowledge Natalie’s two world title wins. She is a special lady. It’s a pleasure to coach Natalie. She never misses a training session and is totally professional in her attitude towards her sport. Natalie was even back in the gym the following Monday after her second world title win. She gives a lot back to the sport teaching kids in the Carrigans gym every Saturday morning so she is the perfect role model and an inspiration to woman in sport.”

For Natalie its back to what she does best and has a big year to look forward to in 2012, when she will challenge for a third professional world title at a third different weight. The bar keeps getting higger and higger for Natalie and there is no-one who would doubt her achieving this. Natalie is now the ISKA Women’s World Professional Bantamweight and super flyweight kickboxing champion.
